Wool « Illustration Friday

Wool     Photoshop

My entry for this week's Illustration Friday topic "wool". This was a tough one, I spent a few days just thinking about what I wanted, and how! First, I was thinking of a big woolly mammoth, that sucked the water out of the ocean using his huge, powerful trunk, creating a tornado. But then I decided not to continue with that idea, after several attempts of adding the fur to the mammoth. I continued to fail at that, so I decided to put it aside for a day or two. Then the following happened.

The most obvious thing to do with the subject was drawing a sheep. That was the very reason I didn't at first. It seemed to easy. But in the end, I think I've found a way for it to work. So I thought of wool, then sheep. If he's making the storm, and he is a HE, why not make it a Stormram?! A stormram is Dutch for battering ram. Ram is a male sheep in both Dutch and English, and Storm is that horrible weather in both languages as well. So for me, this made perfect sense in every way!

I started sketching, and no matter how hard I tried, nothing good came out of my hands. But I kept on going, and after more then thirty attempts to get the Stormram looking good, I've finished this week's entry!

I need to keep working on textures and some other things, but I've learned a lot this week!
